Maintaining Annuals
* Try to keep annual spacing at a minimum of 6" - 8"
By doing this you decrease the space to be filled by one plant also minimizing the ability for weeds to grow throughout
your planting. Coverage will be much more rapid in a shorter amount of time.
*Fertilizing is very important. Annuals such as Petunias or Impatients are very heavy feeders, and would highly benefit from
feeding everyday. You could use Miracle-Gro, mixed with a vitamin hormone Superthrive. This is our personal trade secret.
Also adding a dry granular fertilizer to the soil surface prior to planting is also recommended, preferably a slow release
such as Denny's Best or Osmocote. This method will feed constantly for the season.
*Water, water, water . . . this is a must for annual planting. We usually water annual beds daily until established (1 month)
for best results, then tapering down to 3 times per week. Any annuals in pots or hanging baskets must be soaked thoroughly
everyday.
*Choosing the right plant for the right spot is critical to success
Many times we have seen impatients in full sun or petunias struggling to grow in dense shade. A little research can go a long
way.
